China: Resources for Combatting Chinese Government Censorship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   Washington  May 1, 2018  —  Restrictions on media and internet freedom are increasing in China, but there are steps people inside and outside the country can take to protect and even expand free expression, as shown by a  new online resource  released by Freedom House ahead of World Press Freedom Day.   “China's system of information controls is the most sophisticated in the world, and media and internet freedom have suffered new restrictions over the past year,” said Sarah Cook, senior research analyst and director of the China Media Bulletin. “Courageous people inside China and innovative supporters outside the country are developing new strategies to protect and expand free expression and access to information despite harsh conditions.
