More than 1,600 coronavirus cases have been reported in Balochistan in the last two weeks, Balochistan Government Spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said.

“These are those cases that were reported, but we suspect that there are a greater number of people affected by the virus in the province,” he revealed during a Saturday media briefing.

In the last 24 hours, at least 16 people died from the deadly virus. “Following the increase in these numbers, the chief minister has decided to test everyone person who passes away in the province,” Shahwani said, adding that he will keep sharing details with the public.

The total number of cases Balochistan has recorded so far is more than 4,000, of which 3,000 cases were reported in May alone. According to Shahwani, the overall recovery rate in the province has increased from 13% to 36% and more than 1,400 people have recovered so far.

A total of 71 isolation facilities have been established across Balochistan that can accommodate more than 1,600 patients. “We are also working on establishing 2,000 more facilities,” the spokesperson said.

“Fortunately, of these facilities, only four are being used which have just 150 patients presently,” Shahwani said, adding that 2,200 patients were in home isolation and no patient is on the ventilator, while 26 patients that reported to be in a critical condition have been admitted to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

The spokesperson lauded the doctors and paramedic staff who have been working round the clock to fight the virus. They are being provided personal protective equipment, masks and gloves and their salaries will be increased from June, Shahwani assured.

“The families of doctors who were martyred during the pandemic will be provided with a package,” he said, emphasising that the provincial government was working on a budget for this purpose.

Shahwani revealed that a rise in cases of malaria and typhoid was also noted in the province for which funds have been dispatched and a control centre has been set up.

“But there’s confusion among people,” he said. People are mistaking fevers for malaria to avoid getting tested for COVID-19. He requested people to get themselves tested for all three diseases–malaria, typhoid and coronavirus.

Historical relationship between Kurd and Baloch.

The Kurds are the ethnical group living in a region known as Kurdistan which is divided into Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran. They  are struggling for an independent region since decades and they are famous for their female guerrilla fighters.        On 25 September 2017, the referendum for an independent Kurdish region  was held in Iraq with a turn out of 72 %.   On this important occasion, the historical relation between Kurd and Baloch people is worth discussing.       When it comes to history, every nation tends to find its roots and origin. Same goes with the Baloch people. The Baloch people are always curious  about  finding their roots in history. Even if you  talk to a shepherd in Balochistan, he will be curious to talk about his  tribal or ethnical roots.      The Balochs have always conveyed the history to the next generations in different mediums like poems etc. No Baloch before 20th century had written books on  history  or origin of the Baloch nation .
