QUETTA: The Balochistan cabinet has authorised district and divisional hospitals to directly purchase equipment and medicines, instead of waiting for their supply from the health department.
While presiding over a meeting, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani reviewed the affairs of Medical Store Department on Saturday.
He said the previous arrangement had been causing wastage of money and the decision would ensure availability of medicines and equipment in remote districts of the province.
He urged officials to ensure purchase of good quality medicines and equipment.
The chief minister was informed that medicines could not be purchased for district and divisional hospitals during 2018-19, but the health department issued fresh tenders for them.
Mr Alyani directed authorities concerned to purchase Mobile Medicine Testing Laboratory and ordered the monitoring of directorate of the health department and setting up of a fully equipped intensive care unit in Bolan Medical Hospital.
