Industry experts have rejected tall claims made by Imran Khan that Pakistan is going to make a major breakthrough in discovering its largest oil and gas reserves in the Arabian Sea.

The Kekra-1 well, G Block where the discovery is expected to happen has already been drilled to a depth of 3,700 meters which is 1,800 meters away from the target of 5,500 meters.

The spud drilling activities at Kekra-1 well was kicked off with $75-80 million by joint venture with 25 percent share each. ENI, an Italian company, is operator of the Kekra well-1. Exxon Mobile, OGDCL and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) are the sleeping partners of the joint venture.

A top official said, "It is too early to claim a major discovery," he also added quoting the data of ENI, "Earlier the well was drilled to a depth of 4,900 meters when a high pressure was felt causing huge mud loss and because of unsafe operation the well was plugged. Then the first side tracking started and when it reached down to 3100 meters, then it again met failure which is why the hole was also blocked and now the second side tracking is still underway."

Upon consulting the Additional Secretary and spokesman for the Petroleum Division Sher Afgan, confirmed that when drilling reached a depth of 4,800 meters, the sudden kick pressure came up causing imbalance to the drilling structure owing to which the drilling braved the mud loss.

GA Sabri, former special secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and former DG Oil said "Kick pressure was no sign of a major discovery. He said TOTAL had earlier spud the well in G Block and its depth target was 5,000 meter, but it abandoned the well just before 5,000 meter depth ensuring no discovery."

He explained, "Prior to drilling the Kekra-1, the probability of discovery was 19 percent, but after two sides tracking, the probability had reduced."

A total of 17 attempts were made since 1963 to drill wells for oil and gas but nothing has been discovered.

Companies like Shell, Sun Oil Company, Winter Shall, Marathon Oil Company, Husky Company, OGDCL, Occidental Company, Canterbury, Total and Ocean company have tried deep sea drilling with little no success in making any significant discoveries of oil and gas reserves.

After Success Of Mission Shakti, Russia Asks India To Collaborate In Framing Arms Treaty For Outer Space

Russia has asked India to join its efforts in developing a multilateral legally-binding treaty to prevent the weaponisation of outer space, reports ANI.

It should be noted that Russia’s offer to bring India onboard to draft such a treaty for outer space is unprecedented in the history of international arms agreements. The successful anti-satellite (ASAT) test conducted just two days back (27 March) has substantially strengthened India’s position as an essential player in the global arena. It can be deduced that in the coming years, India will not merely be a signatory to already-framed treaties but be actively involved in framing them.

On Wednesday (27 March), India successfully demonstrated its anti-satellite capability by shooting down a satellite in the Low-Earth Orbit, at the height of 300 km. The test, called ‘Mission Shakti’, was conducted from the Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.

“We noted the test of anti-satellite weapons conducted by India on March 27, as a result of which an Indian spacecraft - a target - in a low earth orbit was hit by an interceptor ballistic missile,” Russia said in a statement.

"We highlight the non-directedness of this test against any specific country declared by the Indian leadership, as well as the reassurance of the continuity of New Delhi foreign policy to prevent the deployment of weapons in outer space and thereby the development of an arms race in it,” the country added.

Russia stated that India’s recent test was a consequence of degraded situation in the field of arms race triggered by US’s weaponisation of outer space.

The Rise of China-Europe Railways

The Rise of China-Europe RailwaysMarch 6, 2018The Dawn of a New Commercial Era?For over two millennia, technology and politics have shaped trade across the Eurasian supercontinent. The compass and domesticated camels helped the “silk routes” emerge between 200 and 400 CE, and peaceful interactions between the Han and Hellenic empires allowed overland trade to flourish. A major shift occurred in the late fifteenth century, when the invention of large ocean-going vessels and new navigation methods made maritime trade more competitive. Mercantilism and competition among Europe’s colonial powers helped pull commerce to the coastlines. Since then, commerce between Asia and Europe has traveled primarily by sea.1Against this historical backdrop, new railway services between China and Europe have emerged rapidly. Just 10 years ago, regular direct freight services from China to Europe did not exist.2 Today, they connect roughly 35 Chinese…
