Balochistan gets over 20,000 valuable artefacts back from Sindh

March 10, 2019

Noor Ul Arifeen

Approximately 20,675 valuable artefacts have been returned to Balochistan from Sindh. These include artefacts that are thousands of years old.

The artefacts had been in Sindh for over 40 years.

The government of Balochistan’s petition to the government of Sindh to return these artefacts has been approved and the artefacts are back in Quetta.

The provincial culture and health secretary, Zafar Ali Buledi, said that these artefacts will be displayed next year at the museum that will be constructed within Balochistan University. He said this will ensure that the valuable artefacts are protected and also give people a chance to learn more about them.

He said that they were kept at Karachi’s National Museum in its exploration branch. They were brought back through the efforts of Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal and Sports and Culture Minister Abdul Khaliq Hazara, he said, thanking the Sindh government for its help in the facilitation of the transport of the artefacts.

There are around 20,675 relics and artefacts that are between 2,000 and 6,000 years old, he explained, adding that the collection includes stone dishes, tools, jewellery and statues, among other things.

He said that Balochistan is home to centuries-old culture and heritage but unfortunately, the previous governments did not do anything to safeguard that heritage or these artefacts. The current government is working to preserve the province’s heritage and inform the people of their heritage, culture and history, said Buledi.

The Rise of China-Europe RailwaysMarch 6, 2018The Dawn of a New Commercial Era?For over two millennia, technology and politics have shaped trade across the Eurasian supercontinent. The compass and domesticated camels helped the “silk routes” emerge between 200 and 400 CE, and peaceful interactions between the Han and Hellenic empires allowed overland trade to flourish. A major shift occurred in the late fifteenth century, when the invention of large ocean-going vessels and new navigation methods made maritime trade more competitive. Mercantilism and competition among Europe’s colonial powers helped pull commerce to the coastlines. Since then, commerce between Asia and Europe has traveled primarily by sea.1Against this historical backdrop, new railway services between China and Europe have emerged rapidly. Just 10 years ago, regular direct freight services from China to Europe did not exist.2 Today, they connect roughly 35 Chinese…
