Pakistan is not fulfilling its obligations

And on Pakistan, what precipitated the President’s tweet about threatening to withhold future U.S. aid?  Is there something in particular that he was either briefed upon or that he noticed?  Because it’s not necessarily a secret that there’s been a long-running dispute between the United States government and Pakistan about how cooperative Pakistan has been with counterterrorism measures and other issues.MS. SANDERS:  The President outlined a new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia earlier this — past year in August.  And, at that time, he laid out and said that Pakistan is not fulfilling its obligations.  The President is simply following through on a commitment that he made, because this is a President that does what he says he’s going to do.  We know that Pakistan can do more to fight terrorism, and we want them to step up and do that.

RECORDER REPORTJAN 3RD, 2018EDITORIALPervasive corruption in this country has not spared even the Gwadar development project, crown jewel of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, even though it is at the centre of national attention. According to a press statement issued the other day by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, Justice Javed Iqbal, investigations show the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority had completely ignored the rules in allotting commercial and industrial plots in the port city, distributing them among favourites and relatives with the help of facilitators (revenue authority and provincial government officials). In so doing, notes the statement, applications of eligible industrial and other investors were rejected.Distressing as this information is, it comes as no surprise. It has been a while when press reports revealed that some 12,000 acres of state land were illegally allotted to certain in…

Brian Caplen | 2/01/2018 10:00 amWestern banks and companies need to engage in China's world-changing Silk Road project or face being left on the sidelines, writes Brian Caplen.
China’s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative has many critics. India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, has called it “a colonial enterprise” that threatens to bring “debt and broken communities in its wake”. India and Japan have launched the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor as an alternative. Without doubt OBOR – also known as the New Silk Road project – will have a huge impact on world development and trade, for better or for worse. The initiative is 12 times the size of the Marshall Plan used to rebuild Europe after the World War Two and to which it has been compared. It includes 68 countries accounting for two-thirds of the world’s population and one-third of world gross domestic product. It connects China to western Europe via both la…

BEJING: Chinese state media has once again extended invitation to India to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and advised New Dehli to shun policy of antagonism towards its neighbours.State-owned Global Times in an opinion piece on Tuesday stated that major world powers have abandoned the traditional mind-set of geopolitical competition after the Cold War and embraced peace and development in keeping with the spirit of the times. However, some countries, such as India, still swear by the outdated geopolitical strategy and base their sense of security on narrow national interests and political confrontation.India’s strategic considerations are underpinned by its traditional geopolitical strategy. India reckons regional cooperation promoted by China will bring about a zero-sum game and even jeopardize its national security and interests. New Delhi’s clout will…

BR RESEARCHJAN 2ND, 20180 VIEWS: 45Before CPEC became the buzzword it is today, the Afghan Ambassador in a meeting with The Pakistan Business Council said that Afghanistan has at least 42 billionaires that neither live in Afghanistan and nor are willing to invest in it. The crux of the meeting was to request and extend an invitation to Pakistan’s business elites to invest in Afghanistan and hence pave the way for Afghani investment to flow back into the country.Fast forward to years later, Pakistan and Afghanistan are at each other’s throats with daggers drawn. Transit trade is ebbing away along with Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan. Current relations consist of pointing fingers, playing the blame game, and cosying up to the enemy aka India, therefore increasing regional instability and creating opportunities for terrorism spill over.Hence, it was time for big brother China to step in and dangle CPEC in front…
