Belt and Road Initiative Memorandum of Understanding Released
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Belt and Road Initiative agreed between Victoria and the People’s Republic of China has today been released.
The Government has released this agreement, following a directive earlier this week by the Premier Daniel Andrews.
The MOU is a high-level document that provides a framework for future cooperation, including through dialogues and exchanges, joint research, knowledge sharing and capacity building.
The MOU does not bind Victoria to be involved in any specific project or initiative.
As it always does, the Government will consider both Victoria’s and the national interest before agreeing to be involved in any specific activity.
The MOU is not legally binding and this is clearly specified in the MOU.
The MOU is in line with a draft MOU that was provided to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in June 2018.
