ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday sought a report of alleged illegal allotment of commercial and industrial land in Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), Balochistan.
Taking notice of a complaint, the chairman ordered NAB, Balochistan Director General Mirza Mohammad Irfan Baig to conduct an inquiry into the alleged multibillion scam featuring illegal land allotment in Gwadar.
The development took place after a complaint about private individuals being allotted 3,167 acres of state land worth Rs70 billion in port city surfaced.
The alleged illegal allotment of land by GIEDA, Balochistan turned it into an estate agency as per the complaint. During initial scrutiny of the record, it transpired that the rules had been totally ignored by GIEDA while allotting commercial and industrial plots.
The plots were distributed among favourites and relatives with the help of facilitators. Furthermore, the files of industrial plots were sold on basis of personal likes and dislikes by rejecting applications of eligible industrialists and potential investors.
Justice (retd) Iqbal sought complete report of allotment of commercial and industrial land in GIEDA within 15 days.
