Troika of Baloch brothers-in-law announce agreement but many questions remain unanswered

February 24, 2018

Pakistan allegation that India sponsored the $15 million ads in Geneva, London, Manchester and New York appear to be  mind boggling as Baloch Gandhi Mama Qadeer, seen here with his grandson Beuragh Reki in the Holy City of Varanasi, was helped by Hindu spiritual leader Jitendranand Sarasawati as Indian government officials did not support him at all.

Three Baloch militant groups, whose main leaders are allegedly based thousands of miles away from the battlefields of Balochistan, have announced they have reached an agreement on joint actions against the Pakistan occupation troops.

The Republican News Network cited the spokesman for the Baloch Republican Army as announcing the agreement, though the main question why they were separate in the first place was not answerered at all.

The brief handout twice mentioned the words "policy statement" and said the central leaders of the Baloch Republican Army, United Baloch Army and Lashkar-i-Balochistan after "innumerable meetings and sittings" have agreed on joint actions.

"From today on wards, in addition to militant actions the three will cooperate in all possible ways," Sarbaz Baloch said.

Sarbaz Baloch said in the backdrop of the current challenges when the Baloch nation is facing (a devilish) enemy like Pakistan cooperation with one another and unity against the enemy was a need of the hour." And as the realization of freedom of the homeland demands pooling of efforts of all responsible circles and in the face of the overall situation, UBA, Lashkar-i-Balochistan and BRA leaderships have made this important decision.

Sarbaz Baloch said, "We will continue our collective efforts so that collective actions remain intact and in the near future we will continue trying to include other organizations in the process as well."

In an almost identically brief statement, Mureed Baloch spokesman for the UBA in a "policy statement"described the unity move as a good omen for the Baloch freedom movement.

Mureed Baloch said united actions were not only positive for the "liberation war" but an imperative need in view of the evolving scenario within the country and internationally and expressed a desire to foster unity and collective actions with other organizations as well. "the eyes of those who want peace in the world are fixed on Balochistan," said Mureed Baloch, adding, "The world now fully aware of the role being played by the state of Pakistan. The international community no longer expects any peace coming from this religious fanatical, terrorist state."

Mureed Baloch said, "We have to convince the world through our role and character that ensuring peace and ending religious terrorism in the world can be achieved only with a free Balochistan." he said towards that end unity is must.

The announcement came three months after a unity meeting was convened in Geneva by Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti, president of the Baloch republican Party. But Islamabad torpedoed the gathering by arresting and deporting Nawab Mehran Marri, even though he is a UK national, along with his family. The Swiss also clamped a lifetime ban on Mr Marri Swiss entry, though he had been pleading the Balochistan case at the UN since March 2001. Mr Marri had said at the time he would contest the Swiss decision but for reasons best known to himself has not done so far.

It was also not clear why the three other militant groups, Balochistan Liberation Front and two factions of the Balochistan Liberation Army led by Hyrbyair Marri and his former driver Aslam Baloch -- Baloch used to be Marri's driver two decades back when he was a government minister in Balochistan. While Aslam Baloch publicly owns the BLA, Hyrbyair Marri does not own the organization in public. The two parted ways last spring when Aslam Baloch visited India for treatment without Hyrbyair Marri permission. There is a big difference in the political stance of the two as Aslam Baloch believes in fighting Pakistan only, while Hyrbyair Marri believes in fighting both Iran and Pakistan.

Likewise, the name Balochistan Liberation Front, led by the lone commoner Dr Allah Nazar is missing form the unity announcement so far. Also the name of the Khan of Kalat, Mir Suleman Daud, who during his decade long exile has cultivated 72 US congressmen to the Balochistan freedom camp is missing.

Islamabad accuses Javed Mengal, Brahumdagh Bugti and Mehran Baluch of leading the Lashkar-i-Balochistan, BRA and UBA, but all three publicly deny any involvement in militancy. Interestingly the three are brothers-in-law: Bugti's sister is married to Mr Marri and Mr Marri's sister is married to Mr. Mengal.

Recently, Pakistan accused India of bankrolling  the troika one of the most expensive ad campaigns in Balochistan history worth $15 million in Geneva, London Manchester and New York. But the charge seems to be totally false and frivolous as legendary Baloch activist Mama Qadeer was in India, almost penniless, but was helped singularly by Jitendranand Sarasawati the Hind-Baloch Forum. It is for this support from common Hindus that this writer. who is an atheist, has wished that his last rites should be Hindu rites.

Indian apathy towards common activists last weekend a key Moscow-based Dr Jumma Marri, who was in the Indian lobby, announced switching towards Islamabad at an event in Moscow.

Dr Marri's father Mir Hazar Khan Ramkhani, the main guerrilla leader during the 1973-77 insurgency, had pledged loyalty to Pakistan quarter century back after differences with the late Godfather of Baloch militancy Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri. Just last spring, Dr Jumma Marri had openly attacked his father's betrayal.

Prior to burying the hatchet against Pakistan and openly blaming India for Baloch woes, Dr Jumma Marri had expected Indian support for many years. In fact his father, now 85, is said to have gone to Dubai to seek India's help without success.

Now another doctor  working on the Baloch front. Dr Ali Akbar Mengal, who is president of Baloch Diaspora France, is being highly critical of the India's non-support to honest activists working on Balochistan.

Likewise, Vancouver-based Professor Naela Quadri, president of the Baloch Women Forum, appears frustrated with Indian support to the parasitical sardars but not honest activists involved in public diplomacy.

Additionally names of two other secular parties, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and and the pseudo-nationalist National Party led by Ports and Shipping Minister Senator Hasil Bizenjo, are missing from the unity announcement.

These  two parties do have pockets of support in Balochistan and without taking these stakeholders on board, talk of a united front may only be an eyewash to gain foreign sympathy.

The Deep State has provided some space to Bizenjo due to his super soft approach towards the men in uniform. Earlier in the week, when there was misreporting that the senate has passed a resolution to adopt Chinese as official language of Pakistan, the joke doing the rounds on the social media was Hasil Bizenjo may change his last name into the Pi Zenchou.

The Rise of China-Europe Railways

The Rise of China-Europe RailwaysMarch 6, 2018The Dawn of a New Commercial Era?For over two millennia, technology and politics have shaped trade across the Eurasian supercontinent. The compass and domesticated camels helped the “silk routes” emerge between 200 and 400 CE, and peaceful interactions between the Han and Hellenic empires allowed overland trade to flourish. A major shift occurred in the late fifteenth century, when the invention of large ocean-going vessels and new navigation methods made maritime trade more competitive. Mercantilism and competition among Europe’s colonial powers helped pull commerce to the coastlines. Since then, commerce between Asia and Europe has traveled primarily by sea.1Against this historical backdrop, new railway services between China and Europe have emerged rapidly. Just 10 years ago, regular direct freight services from China to Europe did not exist.2 Today, they connect roughly 35 Chinese…
