Lack of clear policy leads to silence on the Baloch front

Vikas KumarThe reference to Balochistan in the prime minister’s 2016 Independence Day speech triggered speculation over possible Indian support for the Baloch cause. But the debate on Balochistan did not last long as it was driven by a few cryptic statements of the prime minister and died a natural death without further inputs from the government. Why did the government fail to sustain public interest? The Bangladeshi experience is instructive in this regard. East Pakistan bordered upon West Bengal, one of the most populous states of India that was well-represented in the Parliament, bureaucracy, media, and intelligentsia. Partition did not completely disrupt ties between East Pakistan and West Bengal. The elite among the partition refugees from East Pakistan were influential within India. And there was a significant Hindu population in East Pakistan that was among the Pakistani army’s primary targets. When Pakistan unleashed a genocide targeting Bengalis, West Bengal played an import…

How the CPEC will affect Gilgit Baltistan

http://www.dailyexcelsior.com/cpec-will-affect-gilgit-baltistan/

Pakistan has no land link with China. They only have access through Gilgit Baltistan, which legally is not part of Pakistan. Either under the pressure of China, or to satisfy their imperial agenda they have virtually annexed the region of Gilgit Baltistan. Rumours suggest that once again there is Chinese pressure that because of the CPEC the status of Gilgit Baltistan must be settled. If this happens this will be a big blow to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Some people think, may be India will be happy as that will give an opportunity to New Delhi to incorporate the areas of Jammu and Kashmir under their control.
As a loyal son of the former Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir, I sincerely believe that China Pakistan Economic Corridor is not in our best interests. I have every right to write and oppose this mega project which, like East India Company of the past cen…

No one really seems to know just how CPEC plans to be a game-changer for Pakistan.
25-03-2017CLAUDE ARPIFor Pakistan, it was a dream come true. When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Islamabad in April 2015, he pledged a whopping Rs 3,00,894 crore for the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). While the mega project was a vital element of the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) for Beijing, it was a “game-changer” for Pakistan, as it would bring prosperity to the entire region. It’s true that Xi brought with him munificent gifts for Pakistan: the Chinese billions would boost Pakistan’s flagging economy with massive energy and infrastructure projects. This included an additional 12,000 megawatts to Pakistan’s national grid through coal, hydro and renewable energy projects. The Corridor would have railways, roads, optical fibre cables, dams, pipelines, you name it! Though observers marvelled Beijing’s …

Legal aspects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

Claudia Waedlich26 March 2017Both as a member of a think-tank and having studied law, I am currently investigating the legality of the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) treaty with special regard to International law, Pakistani national law and its Constitution, and UN conventions; focussing particularly on some fundamental legal questions. With this in mind, I would like to make the following preliminary judgement before proceeding to details: The treaty has feet of clay and the consistency of the contract cannot be guaranteed.First, let`s examine the officially announced intentions that China has declared. The corridor will incorporate a 2,000 Kilometre transport link between Kashgar in northwest China and Gwadar port in Balochistan. Gwadar port is on the Arabian Sea near the border with Iran, historically a western Baloch area, occupied by Pakistan in the past and the route would be via roads, railways and pipelines.China and Pakistan have developed strong bilateral trade, eco…

Baloch leafers must come out of tribal mindset

There is some discussion going on in social media on whether baloch should choose one leader to represent internationally. Choosing  one leader is not good, Instead it must be collective leadership  for collective cause and must do collective negotiations .Ultimately baloch must learn Democratic values , shedding tribal mindset
