UN’s silence: a threat to world peace

What are the basic human rights of a person, community, or a nation and why these rights are often violated? Who violates the basic right to life and liberty of the Baloch nation? If We one can find the answers to these questions, then it will be easy to solve this issue and put an end to the violation of Human Rights.

The violation of the basic rights is an extremely dangerous act. First, it starts from a region where the violation takes place and gradually it affects the whole world if it is not wisely contained and solved.  It is important to educate oneself and the rest of the people around the wider world who care for basic Human Rights and strive to bring the perpetrators of such crimes to book.  However, before holding them to account it is equally important to know who commits these crimes and why these crimes are committed?

Human Rights violations are not only physical torture, killing and or imprisoning a person. Depriving someone of education, destroying a national language, attacking educational institutions, killing the most educated section of a society are also some of the blatant violations of Human Rights and crimes that are tantamount to ethnic, linguistic, educational, cultural, and economic genocide of a nation. In this brief write-up, I will highlight the involvement of Pakistan in Baloch genocide in all above-mentioned forms. Pakistan is directly involved in a terrible dirty war in Balochistan.

The Baloch nation’s universal and natural right to life and liberty has been violated in 1948 when the newly artificial state of Pakistan attacked and occupied Balochistan at gun point and we [Baloch] as a nation seems to have failed to educate the world about our history and the heinous crimes of Pakistan against our people.  We also (in past 68 years) have failed to establish strong institutions on national and international level who could properly work to educate the United Nations and international community about the suffering of our people at the hands of occupying forces.

Every day, Baloch are being tortured, Baloch Sisters, mothers and their sons are being picked up by Pakistani Army in broad daylight. In Pakistan, nobody is safe anymore the Baloch, the Sindhis, the Pashtun and the Urdu speaking (Mohajirs) are all victims of Pakistani Punjabi establishment. The common Punjabi, the educated civil society of Punjab is equally responsible for the crimes of their army unless they get out of their comfortable houses and start protesting against the military’s hooliganism against above-mentioned nations and religious minorities.

In Balochistan the Pakistani is burning books and attacking schools, colleges and the university of Balochistan are turned into a military garrison whereas the students and lecturers are forced to continue their education under the shadow of guns in the heavy presence of the military.

As matter of fact, Pakistan does not want to end terrorism because of terrorism especially the religious extremism because it is a profitable business for the state of Pakistan to serve and protect the interests of Punjab. Pakistan is using terrorism as the fear factor on the national and international level. The military supports religious extremist groups and allows them to carry their rampage to distract attention from its crimes in Balochistan, Sindh and Pashtun areas.

Pakistan so far succeeded in concealing its genocidal policies against Baloch people, in fact, the UN and rest of the civilised world’s silence on Pakistan’s crimes against humanity in Bangladesh has encouraged Pakistan to repeat the same in Balochistan. The world must choose between peace, stability and terrorism and disharmony. As long as oppressed and occupied nations and their national liberation struggles of including the Baloch are ignored, the world peace will remain a distant dream which may never come true.

If the world continues to ignore the sufferings of oppressed and occupied nations, totalitarian, fascist, and fundamentalist states will get even bolder from world’s silence and continue to intensify their war crimes.

Time has come to differentiate between friends and foes and war and peace.
